چکیده

In this work we deal with rationing problems. In particular with claims problems with indivisible goods, that is, problems in which a certain amount of indivisible units (of an homogeneous good), has to be distributed among a group of agents, when this amount is not enough to satisfy agents' demands. We define discrete rules to solve those problems that involve notions of fairness similar to those supporting the constrained-equal awards and the constrained-equal losses rules in the continuous case. Axiomatic characterizations of those solutions are provided. JEL classification numbers: D63.

Characterizing Welfare-egalitarian Mechanisms with Solidarity When Valuations are Private Information∗†

In the problem of assigning indivisible goods and monetary transfers, we characterize welfareegalitarian mechanisms (that are decision-efficient and incentive compatible) with an axiom of solidarity under preference changes and a fair ranking axiom of order preservation. This result is in line with characterizations of egalitarian rules with solidarity in other economic models. We also show tha...

Balanced allocation methods for claims problems with indivisibilities

We use a subfamily of standards of comparisons (monotonic standards) to construct scheduling me...

Fair and Square: Issues of Fairness and Computation in Partition Problems

This thesis deals with fair division of indivisible goods and with hedonic games. Both are vibrant fields in the multiagent systems and artificial intelligence community. Fair division of indivisible goods is concerned with the distribution of goods under possibly conflicting interests of agents, whereas hedonic games model issues of coalition formation. For fair division of indivisible goods, ...

A Parallel Elicitation-Free Protocol for Allocating Indivisible Goods

We study the problem of allocating a set of indivisible goods to multiple agents. Recent work [Bouveret and Lang, 2011] focused on allocating goods in a sequential way, and studied what is the “best” sequence of agents to pick objects based on utilitarian or egalitarian criterion. In this paper, we propose a parallel elicitation-free protocol for allocating indivisible goods. In every round of ...

Bundling in exchange markets with indivisible goods∗

We study efficient and individually rational exchange rules for markets with heterogeneous indivisible goods that exclude the possibility that an agent benefits by bundling goods in her endowment. Even if agents’ preferences are additive, no such rule exists. JEL Classification: C71, D63, D71.
